「～に○○がある」「～に○○がいる」という内容を表す文を作りたいときには、There is ○○ ～.やThere are ○○ ～. といいます。この文の主語は○○で、○○が単数(１人や１つ)ならis、複数(２人以上や２つ以上)ならareを使います。
(例)
There is a book on the desk.(つくえの上に本があります。)
There are three books on the desk.(つくえの上に３冊の本があります。)
※○○は、それぞれ a book と three books
There is[are] ○○ ～. の文の疑問文
Thereとis、または、Thereとareの語順をヒックリ返して作ります。
(例)
Is there a book on the desk?(つくえの上に本がありますか。)
Are there three books on the desk?(つくえの上に３冊の本がありますか。)
YesとNoの答え方
上の疑問文に対する答え方は、それぞれ
Yes, there is.(はい、あります。) No, there is not.(いいえ、ありません。)
Yes, there are.(はい、あります。) No, there are not.(いいえ、ありません。)
となります。

isかareの後ろにnotを書いて作ります。
